Want to try Pebble?
Board Game Tournament
Dust off the board games and have a friendly tournament. You can try various games, and it's a great way to spend quality time together.
Read more ideas for indoor board games.
Story Time
Spend some time reading together. You can take turns reading or make it more interactive by acting out parts of the story.
The BookTrust has an excellent list of books you can read together.
Baking Session
Cooking has many benefits for children. Get the little ones involved in the kitchen by baking cookies, cupcakes, or other treats. You can let them decorate their creations with icing, sprinkles, and other toppings.
BBC Good Food has great suggestions for easy recipes.
Crafting Day
Set up a crafting station with various art supplies and let the kids get creative. You can make Valentine's Day cards, winter-themed crafts, or whatever inspires their imagination.
You can also find an arts & crafts group class near you on Pebble.
Nature Walk
If the weather allows, take the kids on a nature walk. Explore a local park, nature reserve, or even just your neighbourhood.
Listen to nature sounds and try to replicate them. Look for interesting plants, animals, and collect items like leaves or stones. These treasures might even inspire you to do some creative crafting at home!
Visit an Open Air Museum
Featuring historical structures, reconstructions, and exhibits set outdoors, open air museums are a great way for children to explore traditional ways of life and learn about different periods of history.
There are many museums across the country, so you’re sure to find something near you. Explore them on the Heritage Education Trust website.
DIY Science Experiments
Conduct simple and safe science experiments at home. Twinkl has a great list of easy experiments that can be done with household items.
You can also find several half-term camps on Pebble focused on educational activities.
Go to the Southbank Imagine Children’s Festival
The annual festival is back! Discover over 100 exciting events catering to kids aged 0-11, with half of them being free. You can find events the week before and during half term.
Go to a Panto!
Some productions are still running right up to the February half term! Even if audience participation, dames, and people dressed in over-the-top costumes isn’t your bag, the kids will love the silliness of a traditional panto (oh yes they will).
Head over to the Big Panto Guide where you can search by county to find a panto near to you.
Be Bored!
An educational psychologist suggests “Be inspired by the research linking boredom and creativity, and treat your child’s imagination to some screen-free plan-free time. It could be half an hour each day, a few hours one afternoon or whatever works for you and yours.”
